BAPS Hindu Temple in Abu Dhabi Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PM Modi) inaugurated. Modi also offered prayers in the temple accompanied by priests. It is the first Hindu stone temple in Abu Dhabi built on 27 acres of land. The temple is a unique blend of Indian culture and United Arab Emirates (UAE) identity.
The Hindu sect ‘Bochasanvasi Akshara Purushottam Swaminarayanan Sanstha’ known as Baps organization is behind the construction of the temple. Abu Dhabi is home to the largest Hindu temple in West Asia.
1. This second largest Hindu temple to be inaugurated in the UAE is the centerpiece of his brief two-day visit to the Gulf nation. In October 2022, HH Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE’s Minister of Tolerance, inaugurated the temple in Dubai.

2. In 2015, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan allotted 27 acres of land to build a Hindu temple. The temple is located at Abu Muraikha on the Dubai-Abu Dhabi highway. This announcement was made during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first visit to the UAE. Later in 2018, the stone laying ceremony of the temple was held.
3. There is a prayer hall with a capacity of 3,000 people. The temple complex consists of a community centre, an exhibition hall, a library and a children’s park.
4. The front of the temple has beautiful marble carvings on a pink sandstone background made of over 25,000 stones by skilled artisans from Rajasthan and Gujarat. The pink sandstone was imported from Rajasthan.
5. The temple is characterized by traditional Nagar style architecture. It stands 108 feet tall with seven spiers representing one of the seven emirates of the UAE.
6. The temple has two central domes — ‘Dome of Harmony’ and ‘Dome of Peace’. The entrance to the temple is marked by eight idols. It symbolizes the eight values that form the basis of Sanatana Dharma
7. The temple also contains the stories of ancient civilizations — Maya, Aztec, Egyptian, Arabic, European, Chinese, African — all carved in stone. The stories of ‘Ramayana’ can also be seen in the structure.
8. The temple has seven shrines, each dedicated to a different deity from the north, east, west and south of India.
9. In the construction of the temple, fly ash was incorporated to replace a significant portion of the cement in the concrete mix.
10. About 150 sensors monitor the structure’s temperature, pressure, stress and seismic events, ensuring the safety and longevity of the temple.
11. BAPS Mandir has already won many accolades including Best Mechanical Project 2019, MEP Middle East Awards, Best Interior Design Concept 2020, Best Architectural Style and Best Traditional Nagar Style.
12. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Prathan, who was on a visit to the UAE, visited the temple. This temple is described as a spiritual symbol of global unity.
