The Armageddon #1 team yesterday became the monarch of the 2023 National Team Championship, organized by the Salvadoran Chess Federation, after playing the last round of the classic modality.
Second place went to La Tribu Chess and third place went to La Tribu Alpha.
The members of the winning team were Carlos Morales, Jorge Ramírez, José Meléndez, Carlos Cisneros (San Miguel), Eduardo Araujo, Francisco Pérez, Néstor Morales and Carlos Flores (San Miguel).
On the last day of competition in the classic modality, Armageddon #1 achieved four individual medals thanks to the performance on the fourth and fifth boards with Francisco Pérez and Eduardo Araujo (gold), while on the third and sixth boards, Carlos Flores and Carlos Cisneros won the silver medal.
At the end of the competition, Cisneros, captain of the winning team and who is a native of San Miguel, expressed his satisfaction at winning the title in his first participation in a national event.
“What we have achieved exceeded our expectations because we competed against very strong rivals. Our team was made up of chess players from San Miguel, San Salvador and the municipality of San Marcos, forming a competitive group with the idea of winning. And despite the bad result in the blitz, where we came fourth, we managed to overcome that obstacle and win the last two modalities,” said Carlos.
Regarding the work done yesterday, Carlos explained that it was an intense day in which each result on the different boards would deliver or take away first place.
“The blitz, because it was a faster round-trip mode, took its toll on us. That is why by winning the quick mode we improved and now in the classic, which is the most important, we came to be in a position of losing more than one game, we were left without a title, thank God and our teammates we overcame that moment and achieved the points necessary to stay in first place,” indicated the captain of the Armageddon #1 team.
In the blitz mode, the first places were: Los Reyes del Jacks, La Tribu Alpha and La Tribu Chess. While in rapid the winning teams of the first three places were: Armageddon #1, Los Reyes del Jacks and Brain Crushers.
