Record Withdrawal of UAH 27 Billion in Savings by Ukrainians in January 2024: National Bank of Ukraine Report

Ukrainians withdrew UAH 27 billion from deposit accounts in January – this is a record withdrawal of savings since the introduction of martial law in Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

This is said in a report National Bank of Ukraine.

In January 2024, the total volume of household deposits in the banking system decreased by 2.5% – by UAH 27.4 billion, after which 1.05 trillion remained in the accounts (from 1.078 trillion at the end of 2023).

The overall drop in the volume of resident deposits in banks was 2.1%. Thus, the total amount of deposits decreased by UAH 49.2 billion, to UAH 2.35 trillion. Statistics take into account deposits of both households and businesses.

Entrepreneurs withdrew 22 billion hryvnia in January.

In 2023, solvent Ukrainian banks, according to preliminary data, received 86.5 billion hryvnia in net profit.

The share of non-performing loans in the banking sector in 2023 decreased by 0.8% and amounted to 37.4% as of January 1.

February 7 Verkhovna Rada supported in the first reading of the government bill on mobilization. In the updated bill on mobilization offered introduce measures of influence on draft evaders, in particular blocking bank accounts.
