Cuban-American businessman Boris Arencibia continues to receive bad news, and after having requested bail from the Atkins court, it was denied, so he will remain in prison.
The cultural promoter, who was arrested on January 26 by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), is being held in a South Florida jail, and will continue there as he is considered a latent “flight risk.”
According to minutes from the Atkins Building Courthouse, Magistrate Lauren F. Louis, who presided over a meticulous hearing for more than two hours on February 7, was the one who denied the defendant bail, which, for the charges against him, amounted to $250,000.
The prosecution argued that the former judoka also traveled to Cuba on two occasions, in 1998 and in 2016, and that on that last occasion he did not obtain legal documents to make the trip, so the risk of escape would be latent.
Arencibia’s recent scandals also took their toll on him, as the legal process he faces against YouTuber Jorge Batista, better known as Ultrack, who accused him of assault against him and his wife, was taken into consideration.
Due to this background, the danger that the producer represents for the community was discussed, as he has fought in bars in Miami on two occasions, the most recent in September 2023, whichwhich led to a million-dollar private lawsuit by Ultrack.
Likewise, Assistant Federal Attorney Frank Tamen maintained that the Cuban-American organized a music festival in Puerto Rico last year, with the sole purpose of using the money for the legal defense of the associate of a notorious drug trafficker.
With preventive imprisonment without the possibility of bail, any hope of escape for the detainee is nullified, as well as any hope of obtaining provisional freedom in his sentence at the end of the process.
Boris Arencibia faces 18 federal chargesincluding conspiracy to deliver counterfeit and adulterated medicines, trafficking in medical products and money laundering.
Represented by lawyer Frank Quintero and advised by a counselor from the US Public Defenders Office, Arencibia tries to defend himself against the accusations that They would lead him to serve several decades in prison if found guilty.
