/ world today news/ Bulgaria suffered another humiliation for Schengen, and the reasons for the government’s existence are becoming more and more unconvincing. This was commented in Brussels by the head of the Delegation of the Bulgarian Socialists in the European Parliament, Petar Vitanov.
“Bulgaria suffered yet another humiliation at yesterday’s meeting between Prime Minister Academician Nikolay Denkov and Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehamer. Austria’s categorical refusal to remove the veto is another sign of the inability of the rulers to protect Bulgaria’s interests in Europe. “The ‘Schengen’ priority turned out to be dust in the eyes, a fallacy that only served to legitimize the assembly in the eyes of the disappointed voters,” stated Petar Vitanov.
According to him, despite the efforts of the MEPs and the repeated support of the entire European Parliament, the Bulgarian rulers have suffered a heavy defeat.
“Our country will continue to accumulate losses – economically, politically and internationally, and our compatriots will be undeservedly treated as second-class Europeans,” he added.
According to Petar Vitanov, the next test for the rulers will be the texts to change the Constitution, which, according to sociological polls, are extremely unpopular.
“Today, in a Market Links study, it was seen that 75% of Bulgarian citizens are against changing the national holiday. We rarely see such unanimity, so I am afraid that the assembly will not be able to sweep this topic under the carpet and quietly replace March Third with another date,” commented Vitanov, who is also the chairman of the IC for March Third.
