On Södra hamnplan, right next to the ice rink where the Dutch skating competition Schaatsen is in full swing, the municipality of Luleå invites you to a folk festival for the second year in a row. From February 22 to 25, the area is filled with life.
The event has grown greatly and this year is a record year with the number of participants. A total of around 550 people from the Netherlands come to Luleå for just over a week. About 250 people are part of the group around the Schaatsen Grand Prix. In addition, 150 people participate in the tourist race Tourskate event and another 50 people run the charity race Skate4air and another 50 people from the press/media.
Well-attended folk festival
It is the second year in a row that the folk festival Luleå on ice has been arranged. The event has become a great success, attracting large numbers of people to the area, and now the event is growing even further. Among other things, a Lounge on ice is being built where local food artisans serve visitors locally produced food and drink.
During the weekend there will be both live music and a vernissage. Among other things, Sunderby folk high school will hold the opening of this year’s snow art on Friday and children from Luleå’s recreation center will exhibit their snow art, there will also be an ice-cold hair show, dog sleds and lots of exhibitors.
Anniversary of the ice rink
On Saturday, the ice rink’s 20th anniversary will be properly celebrated. It takes place with the help of Luleå general figure skating club, which takes the lead in a torch train on the ice road. In place by the stage, the ice rink is celebrated with live music and a fire show. Earlier in the day, Luleå Hockey is the organizer of the Winter classic hockey tournament for the younger children.
