Because: Claus Bolte was elected as the new deputy director by the administrative board of the University Hospital of Basel. He succeeds Albert Urwyler, who was removed from the USB Board of Directors at the end of 2023.

Claus Bolte has been working at the medicines authority Swissmedic since 2012. Before taking office as Chief Medical Officer, he was responsible for the Clinical Assessment department and then for the regulatory area; at the same time he served as deputy CEO.
Before working at Swissmedic, Dr. med. Claus Bolte works in research and lifecycle management at global pharmaceutical, biotech and medtech companies in the USA, Great Britain and Switzerland. Claus Bolte is a surgeon by training with extensive international training in trauma, transplant and tumor surgery.
The Board of Directors has been the highest management body of the University Hospital of Basel since 2012.
