Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono admitted to obeying orders when asked why he did not resign from President Joko Widodo’s cabinet (Jokowi).
“Oh, it’s over, tomorrow I’ll vote (in the election). I’ll continue to work, that’s the order,” said Basuki at the State Palace, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (13/2).
Basuki emphasized that he would remain loyal to President Jokowi until the end of his reign. If his words do not change, it means that Minister Basuki will stay in the cabinet until October 2024.
He even emphasized that Jokowi’s cabinet is still solid to this day. Basuki emphasized that he would complete his work as minister until his term of office was over.
On the other hand, Basuki dismissed reports that there was a direction from PDI-P General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri to leave Jokowi. He admitted that he had not seen Mega since the end of January.
“I haven’t met (Megawati) yet,” he stressed.
It was rumored that PUPR Minister Basuki and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani would resign because of President Jokowi’s attitude. This news was conveyed by Senior Economist at the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (INDEF) Faisal Basri.
The economist was disappointed with the Jokowi government which was seen as siding with candidate pair number 2 Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka in the 2024 presidential election. He then invited Jokowi’s ministers to resign.
“Come on, let’s persuade Mrs. Sri Mulyani (finance minister), Pak Basuki (PUPR minister Basuki Hadimuljono), and several other ministers to resign. That will have a powerful effect. Morally, I heard that Mrs. Sri Mulyani is most ready to resign. Pramono Anung “(the cabinet secretary) is stuttering. The PDI (PDI Perjuangan) continues to defend Jokowi, he has a headache,” claimed Faisal in the 2024 Political Economic Outlook in Tebet, South Jakarta, Saturday (13/1).
“He said he was waiting for the momentum, hopefully this momentum will soon, God willing, become a powerful trigger, like Pak Ginandjar (Coordinating Minister for Economics, Finance and Industry Ginandjar Kartasasmita) and 13 other ministers who resigned during the era of Pak Harto (President Soeharto),” he added.
Faisal pays special attention to state debt. According to him, the Jokowi regime has brought Indonesia’s debt to around Rp. 8 quadrillion or Rp. 8,000 trillion because it continues to build many things without being willing to work hard to increase income.
He predicted that Indonesia’s debt would double, aka IDR 16 thousand trillion, if Prabowo-Gibran continued. These debts ultimately become a burden for the younger generation.
