The finder says that the 15-gram piece of amber was found in Bernāti, in the Ničas parish of the Southern Kurzeme district, south of Liepāja.
Amber is a hardened fossil resin prized for its golden color. Most of the world’s amber is between 30 and 90 million years old. Amber is distributed in the Baltic Sea, also in the territory of Latvia, where it can be found on the Kurzeme coast, mainly in the vicinity of Liepāja.
True, this find is far from the 150-gram piece of amber found in Kolkasrag in 2015, but on June 28, 2022, the world’s largest 68-kilogram and 200-gram piece of amber, found on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, arrived at the Polish city of Gdańsk’s Amber Museum. True, it is dark and definitely does not look like our usual warrant.
