Russian Embassy Asks for Ban on Peaceful Protests in Germany Against Putin During Presidential Elections

The Russian Embassy asks to ban peaceful protests in Germany against the current leader of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, during the Russian presidential elections, which are scheduled for March 15-17.

According to The Moscow TimesRussian Ambassador to Germany Sergei Nechaev said that the diplomatic mission is aware that rallies of an “anti-Russian nature” are being prepared in Germany.

“We have raised the issue with the German authorities about taking comprehensive security measures. We insist on a ban on holding mass rallies in the immediate vicinity of diplomatic missions in order to avoid clashes and threats to voters,” he told RosSMI.

According to him, to ensure security on election day, the diplomatic mission plans to significantly strengthen control at the entrance to Russian foreign institutions and attract private security companies.

Nechaev also complained about difficulties in organizing elections due to the “intensification of anti-Russian sentiments” in Germany, as well as due to the closure by the German authorities of four of the five Russian consulates general – in Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Frankfurt am Main.

As The Moscow Times notes, at the end of January 2024, Russian Foreign Ministry representative Maria Zakharova announced that polling stations would be organized in countries where there are diplomatic missions and consulates, including “unfriendly” ones. As of February 7, 269 polling stations had already been established abroad.
