The Debt Agency will issue two government bonds on March 4, one for one year and one for three years. The agency wants to limit the amount raised to 6 billion euros and can close the registration for these government bonds early, it announced in a press release on Tuesday.
The Agency has proposed to Minister of Finance Vincent Van Peteghem (CD&V) to reissue the government bonds in one year at the reduced withholding tax rate of 15.0 percent. For the three-year government bond, the withholding tax rate will, as always, be 30.0 percent.
Van Peteghem has been advocating for a new tax-friendly one-year government bond for some time, after a successful issue last summer. The reduced withholding tax rate of 15 percent still requires approval from State Secretary for Budget Alexia Bertrand (Open VLD) before February 19.
The coupons for both government bonds will be announced on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.
