Jakarta –
In the next few weeks, Telkom through its subsidiaries, Telkomsatwill launch satellite just went to space. Different from the previous one, Telkom’s new satellite is more sophisticated.
Telkom’s SVP Corporate Communications & Investor Relations, Ahmad Reza, said that Telkom’s satellites are of a type High Throughput Satellite (HTS). Meanwhile, the previous one had one large coverage area on Earth (beam coverage) (single wide beam).
“The satellite that will be launched uses technology high throughput satellite (HTS), which is a technology that has a small but large area coverage design on Earth (multi-spots beam),” said Reza to detikINET some time ago.
Telkom HTS Satellite it is assembled by Thales Alenia Space as a satellite manufacturer based in France. Meanwhile, Thales Alenia Space has sent the satellite to Cape Canaveral Harbor, United States, since January 9 2024.
Later, this internet satellite will be carried by its Falcon 9 rocket SpaceXcompany Elon Musk, to orbit slot 113 degrees East Longitude (BT). Planned launch Telkom’s new satellite that rocketed into space in mid-February.
“(Telkom’s HTS satellite) produces large satellite transmit power in an area covered by the beam. This satellite transmit power is identical to the amount of data the satellite is able to send to that location,” he continued.
After being launched in mid-February, Telkom’s new satellite, the name of which is still being worked out, is targeted to be operational in April 2024.
“It will be used to help digital equality in Indonesia through the provision of services backhaul satellite-based, developing maritime business in Indonesia, and supporting data sovereignty in Indonesia by reducing dependence on foreign satellite capacity,” he concluded.
If the launch process is successful, then Telkom will own and operate three satellite active, namely Telkom 4 or the Merah Putih Satellite in orbit slot 108 East Longitude, the Telkom-3S satellite in orbit slot 118 East Longitude, and the one that will launch is the HTS Satellite in orbit slot 113 East Longitude.
