Rheinmetall CEO: Ukraine Needs More Than 2 Million Shells a Year, German Production Not Enough

The head of the German defense concern Rheinmetall, Armin Papperger, said that Ukraine needs more than two million shells a year and German production is not able to meet this need.

Papperger quotes Bildreports “European Truth”.

According to him, Germany will need “ten to 15 years” to replenish its own reserves.

“In total, we want to produce up to 700 thousand artillery shells per year until 2025,” Papperger said.

He also called on the German government to take a realistic approach to equipping the Bundeswehr with armed drones.

“A new type of war is being waged in Ukraine using drones, and there is still a debate about whether it is worth arming drones,” added the head of the concern.

The day before it became known that construction of a new Rheinmetall plant is beginning in Germany, which will increase the capabilities of Germany for the production of artillery shells.

At the groundbreaking ceremony for the new plant, the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called move towards large-scale production of defense equipment so that Europe can successfully deter aggressors.
