In 2023, there were 66 complaints about wind turbine nuisance in Flanders. That is the largest number of complaints in the past seven years. This is evident from figures that Flemish Member of Parliament Johan Deckmyn (Vlaams Belang) requested from Flemish Minister of the Environment Zuhal Demir (N-VA). In 2022 there were 51 complaints and in 2021 29. The main reasons for the complaints were noise pollution and shadow shadows.
The record number of complaints in 2023 follows a year in which a record number of permits were issued with 93 projects. This involved 112 wind turbines, which is the largest number since 2019. At that time, 150 wind turbines were built. (belga)
