(Keystone-SDA) The center of the city of Bern wants to defend Reto Nause’s seat in the local council with Béatrice Wertli. The party meeting unanimously nominated Wertli on Monday evening. She followed a request from the search committee and the party executive committee.

Her party is convinced that 47-year-old Wertli meets all the criteria for a position in the city government. As a former city councilor and parliamentary group leader, she is familiar with Bern politics. As a former director of the Swiss Gymnastics Association and former general secretary of the CVP Switzerland, she has leadership experience and strategic training.

Wertli is currently working as a consultant at a Bernese communications agency. She is married to price monitor Stefan Meierhans. Her two children go to school in Bern.

Wertli should run on a center-right list. The FDP, SVP, GLP and EVP also have one candidacy each.

The red-green parties currently hold four of the five local council seats. The center-right parties want to change that with their joint list and win a second seat.

Mitte local councilor Reto Nause often described himself as the only citizen in the Bern city government. He will not run for re-election on November 27th due to term limits.
