The candidate for the president of the BFS, Dimitar Berbatov, held a meeting on the development of Bulgarian football with representatives of the Burgas clubs. On it, he presented his program and answered questions from Burgas football people.
„We have been presenting our strategy for the development of Bulgarian football for three years now. We are showing a consistency that should be a signal to the clubs. Our football is underestimated, but it is watched more on TV than English or Spanish. Television rights need to be reviewed. Why should only one television broadcast the matches? The cup may be on one channel and the championship on another. The Professional League should be separated from the BFS. The football union should prioritize only amateur leagues, children’s and youth football, national teams and the refereeing committee. The professional league can be spun off smoothly and it is prepared to be administered. The professional clubs in it will have their own executive committee and president” said the legend of Bulgarian football.
Regarding the introduction of a restriction for foreign players in their home clubs, Berbatov said that a restriction for those from the EU cannot be introduced, but for others outside, up to three will be able to play in the clubs. If a team wants more, then they have to pay a fee, which is collected in a fund and goes to children’s and youth football.
„The work of the state, which must partner with the people who manage Bulgarian football, will also be key. As an example, I can give Italy, where two stadiums will now be built under the European program for sustainability and development. There are the options and the European funds, they just have to be used correctly” he said.
Berbatov expressed hope that the people who will be candidates for the president of the BFS will have a real assessment of their chances, and he himself hopes for an honest congress. He expressed the desire that when it comes to voting for the president of the BFS, the ballots will be counted in front of everyone in the congress.
Among the priorities of Berbatov and his team are: organizational and structural changes in the BFS, the mandate of its president up to 12 years, without football presidents in the Executive Committee, support and stimulation of amateur football, discussion of a change in the format of the Third League and the Cup of Bulgaria, amateur clubs to choose their own zonal and district presidents, the development of more young football players, uniform methodology, training and categorization of children’s and youth football, development of women’s football, creation of a strategy to popularize mini football in Bulgaria, 100% absorption of the funding under the programs of UEFA and FIFA, construction of a new national stadium, improvement of the quality of the pitches and infrastructure of the stadiums in Bulgaria, prevention in the fight against the black lottery and others.
