100 cubic meters of earth and rubble in the middle of the M2205 metropolitan road. Big disappointments for holidaymakers who came to enjoy the resorts of Auron and Isola 2000, in the Alps: the access road is blocked due to a landslide. “We were going skiing for a short day and… ultimately not at all”deplores a motorist in the TF1 report visible at the top of this article. “For once there was snow, it’s a shame”continues another driver.
Half a clear lane at midday?
The impressive landslide took place during the night of Sunday February 11 to Monday February 12 on the Tinée road, 3 kilometers south of Isola. It is due to the abundant rainfall of recent days. The landslide cuts the road in both directions of traffic and no diversion is possible to access the two ski resorts.
Since early Monday morning, the roads department has been working to remove the huge mass obstructing the passage. An agent details: “We are going to shore up the ridges to secure and remove all the large stones. And then, a spider excavator will intervene to level all that”

Fortunately for vacationers, the clearance of this road axis should be rapid. “It seems that according to the geologist’s opinion, there are no fundamental risks, which allows us to begin clearing now so that at midday we can , on a half-lane, allow everyone to get off and on”specifies Christian Estrosi, the president of the Nice metropolis.
Further upstream, some professionals are worried about the potential shortfall, because many customers have not arrived. On the other hand, the 9,000 people stuck in the station seem to be coping well with the situation. “We extend it, and that’s it. We don’t have much choice”says, smiling, a vacationer.
