The Audi brand was to say goodbye to two sports models in 2023. The first was the smaller Audi TT coupe, the end of which the automaker confirmed with a picture of the last piece produced. The second model was supposed to be the Audi R8 supersport, but the brand did not comment on the end of its production.
But as it turned out, there was nothing to comment on yet. The super sports Audi R8 with an atmospheric 5.2-liter V10 engine survived its death and production was extended until the end of March this year, as the website pointed out Engine1. The reason was apparently high demand.
Liza Kellner, spokesperson for the Audi TT and R8 models, then told Motor1 that the original statement about the end of the R8 model in 2023 dates back to 2019. From this point of view, it should not be too surprising that the production of extended by several weeks.

“It is true that the last Audi R8 will leave the production line at the end of the first quarter of 2024. This will mark the end of production of the iconic sports car at the Audi Böllinger Höfe plant in Neckarsulm. The fully electric Audi e-tron GT model will continue to be produced at the Böllinger Höfe plant,” the Motor1 website quotes from the statement.
Information about Audi’s global sales should still be published, but at least in the US, sales of the R8 have doubled year-on-year. It is therefore possible that high demand may have played a role in extending production. After all, the VW concern is ending the 5.2-liter V10 engine, so this is one of the last options to get it.
At the same time, the Audi brand began to say goodbye to the R8 model already in 2022, when it presented a special edition of the R8 V10 GT RWD, the production of which was limited to only 333 units. As the name already suggests, the 612 horsepower of the naturally aspirated engine went to the rear wheels only, instead of the standard quattro all-wheel drive.
