The talk during the WC Nove Mesto has largely been about the weather. If it hasn’t rained, the wind has caused problems.

The organizers have worked around the clock to create a functioning – and sustainable – track to provide fair conditions for all riders.

But at the start of the men’s hunt, they had to give way to the power of the weather.

Shortly before the start, it was announced that the long slope could not be used and the loop was rescheduled.

– They took a different detour to get to 2.5 kilometers than what was originally intended. So this little loop is actually 50 meters too long, explained SVT’s commentator Ola Bränholm.

“It’s tough”

So the chase start turned out to be a couple of hundred meters too long after the organizers were forced to change the course.

– The piece they removed is also quite difficult, says Martin Ponsiluoma.

But at the same time, the Swedish riders are criticizing another detail on the course, a 180 degree curve that is at the highest point of the course.

– It feels like you are standing still. It’s really hard to start riding again, you almost stand still after it. It’s tough. You lose all speed.

It doesn’t feel normal with those kinds of curves?

– No absolutely not. Not that tight. It’s tough.

SVT’s expert Björn Ferry pointed this out during yesterday’s broadcast.

– I think it looks a bit b to go around a cow like that, Ferry said.

Swedish WC debutant Viktor Brandt is not used to that type of solution either.

– I think they could have made it a little different track stretch there, at the same time it is the same for everyone. I think I did well there during the sprint and built speed. But you stand still there and it is difficult to pick up speed again, he says and continues:

– It’s a flat part too, so you think you have to keep up your speed, but then you have to slow down, it’s tough. It’s like coming to a complete stop in a straight line.
