Two titans atop the city’s third tallest building: that’s the setting for this ethereal penthouse overlooking Central Park.
In early February, Studio MTX, the historic embroidery house of Métiers d’art de Chanel, was invited by Invisible Collection to showcase their unique expertise in an exceptional penthouse located in the luxury residential development 111 West 57th Street overlooking Central Park, New York.

From 19M to NYC
As if levitating over Central Park, the penthouse designed by Banda Design & Development Studio and decorated with designer piecesInvisible Collectionthe most exclusive design marketplace, featured four custom-made works created by Studio MTX.
Located in the heart of 19M, the creation and production workshop of Studio MTX (created under the name Montex in 1939) brings the embroidery technique to life by anchoring it in modernity through three-dimensional objects that accompany architectural projects. Under the artistic direction of Mathieu Bassée, the studio collaborates with interior designers to create modular and decorative structures that come to life in hotel projects, private residences, boat fittings and even commissioning works. for contemporary artists.
An ode to the city
In the living room, delicate translucent woven panels, presented in a blue-green gradient, contrast with the brushed brass metal pieces arranged and recall the panorama offered by this penthouse over New York. Suspended in front of the bay windows, three-dimensional metallic weavings extend this feeling, delicate echoes of the shape of the Chrysler Building.
The dining room hosts the XL “Sequence” circular mirror decorated with ribbons and metal tubes woven on a sheet of polished and laser-cut stainless steel, creating a highly original effect on the surface of the mirror for a room that is as functional as it is decorative, reminding us that the unique know-how of Studio MTX is not limited to fabrics alone, which is underlined, in the master bedroom, by a two-meter-long panoramic mirror which borrows both from the art of cabinetmaking and the modernity of digital milling.
As with fashion embroidery, the materials on which the techniques are deployed Studio MTX can be diverse: walls of ribbons which enclose pieces of brushed brass, a screen which puts metal and silk in tension, a series of screens which only seem to be composed of shards of crystal…
By deploying its ornamental know-how in space, the Métiers d’art workshop of Chanel opens a unique path in the artistic professions, by using digital and serial design and production tools to benefit creations almost entirely made by hand.
