There are no applicants for this job in Varna – 2024-02-11 19:47:09

There are no applicants for this job in Varna. Low pay prevents young specialists from starting work at the branch of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology in the seaside city. In the institute, they rely on their colleagues who are already retired.

There are 6 vacant positions for meteorologists in the branch of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology in Varna.

“For the technical staff, their net salary is about BGN 1,200, specialists with higher education about BGN 1,400, for the management team it is about BGN 1,600,” Ivan Ivanov, director of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology – Varna, told BNT.

According to Ivanov, the budget of the institute has not been increased for the third year already: “Not only did we not receive an increase, but even less. At least 7-8 ministries benefit from our forecasts and receive daily and minute-by-minute information.”

Nearly 10% of the staff at the institute are pensioners. Within two years, their number will increase by another 10 percent.

Weather forecaster Lyubomir Madzharov is retired, but continues to work – for 46 years now: “Because of the low salaries we have, many young people do not want to join us, they first ask about the money.”

However, Madzharov is loyal to the institute and to the people who rely on their forecasts: “We have had more than one or two cases when thanks to our forecasts even ships were saved.”

The Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology in Varna insists on an adequate budget in order to be able to carry out their duties.
