Im Home of Movie Palace in Nordhausen it smells like popcorn on Friday afternoon. Employee Erik Lilje monitors the preparation behind the counter. Every now and then he stirs the popcorn with a spoon. Behind him, his colleagues unpack goods and put them away. Opposite the counter, Peter Walther and Sascha Wagner from the Lüders carpentry workshop in Nordhausen are busy installing a shelf. The cinema’s merchandising items will later be presented here. There is also a lot of activity at the bar in front of cinemas 2 and 3. Petra Himmelbauer stands on a ladder and cleans the glass panes of the display cases. “There is still a lot to do,” says cinema manager Jürgen Deisting. Nevertheless, he is sticking to the announced date for the reopening of the film palace. “We will definitely open on Saturday, February 10th, from 1 p.m.,” he announces.
