Neymar was so impressive according to Dante that he should be crowned the best player on the planet by winning a Ballon d’Or. However, the Brazilian failed to live up to expectations and achieve his personal goal with the supreme individual award during his time at PSG among others.
Arrived at PSG at 25 years old from FC Barcelona in 2017, Neymar was at the top of his game coming off an Olympic title in Rio a year earlier with Brazil and a Champions League in 2015 with Barça.
Neymar and Ballon d’Or, missed meeting
Gone to emerge from the shadow of Lionel Messi in Catalonia, Neymar did not achieve his goals with the Paris Saint–Germain and in particular the Golden Ball for which he seemed destined once Lionel Messi et Cristiano Ronaldo would naturally be more discreet.

“He thought he was going to be a Ballon d’Or winner one day, yes”
And for Dantefellow Brazilian Neymar whom he notably rubbed shoulders with in the selection, the former number 10 of PSG kept the Golden Ball in the back of his mind. “Neymar? If we realized the player he is, it’s incredible. If we’re impressed by the player we could have been? Yes, because we all had 10 coins, we would have bet the 10 on the fact that he would one day be the best player in the world. He thought he was going to be a Ballon d’Or one day, yes. What if he has regrets? I think because he’s smart.”
