NOVE MESTO. Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen copied Frida Karlsson’s hit upload.
It earned him a WC bronze.
– Many thanks to Sweden, he says.
There were three Norwegians on the podium at the WC sprint in Nove Mesto.
31-year-old Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen finished third, 20 seconds ahead of Sweden’s Sebastian Samuelsson.
– Can it get better? This is what we toil and work with all year round. We whip ourselves early in the morning in terrible Norwegian autumn weather and travel the world to find the optimal composition of air to prepare for the WC, he says.
Copied the layout
After his sixth WC medal in his career, the Norwegian chose to thank Frida Karlsson.
Namely, he copied her, Linn Svahn’s and Johan Häggström’s successful scheme of going to Lavazé at high altitude.
The Swedes went there after the Tour de Ski and then came back in top form for the World Cup competitions in Oberhof.
Sjåstad Christiansen dissed the Norwegian WC upload and went alone to the Italian alpine village.
– What I was involved in around Christmas and New Year contains many perfect choices that were made. I saw that the Swedes were in Lavazze on a kind of precamp before Oberhof and it really paid off for several of them. Today, I think we can say that the charge I had at the height is why I won the bronze medal today, he says.
The 31-year-old continues:
– Every krone, every penny and every dinner I had to make myself I got back today. I was lucky to have two friends with me who could provide some entertainment and play cards, so it wasn’t too lonely. But life as a top athlete can be lonely. Then it means everything to get it back today.
So a little thanks to Frida Karlsson and a little thanks to the gang?
– A big thank you to Sweden and a big thank you to Martin and Sigurd (the friends).
