Ukrainian Researcher Calls for Change in Strategy to Deal with Frozen War in South Ukraine

The researcher drew attention to the fact that the war with Russia in the south of Ukraine has turned into a frozen war, so a change in strategy is needed. Shrader believes that the aim of the Ukrainian political leadership is to change the strategy to deal with the situation in the south of Ukraine. He admits that this is precisely why the command structure and priorities that the new commander of the Ukrainian forces has come up with have been changed. “Zaluzhny has also admitted this himself in the article “Economist”, that is, that the war has reached the level of the First World War, that everything is happening in the trenches and nothing is moving forward. In Shrader’s view, there is no rebellion or mutiny among the Ukrainian military and political elite. He emphasized that Zaluzhny’s success cannot be denied. They are not denied by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, for example, he invited Zaluzhny to join Sirsky’s team in an advisory capacity, which the former commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army refused. Zaluzhny previously stated that a new strategy, changes in the way Ukrainian military forces are organized, counterattack and “expulsion” of the enemy from Ukrainian territory are needed.

Asked if Sirsky will be able to develop a strong strategy, the LAI researcher stressed that the strategy itself cannot be strong, the military forces and the capabilities of the Ukrainian army are strong, which they have already proven, but the strategy could be an effective way to organize Ukrainian attacks, e.g. , striking at strategic points to break Russian resistance, allowing Ukrainian military forces to advance.
