Apple Vision Pro: Release in China, UK, and Canada, Obstacles with Name Trademark

Jakarta

Vision Prothe first mixed reality headset from Apple, it has been on sale in the United States since last weekend. After the US, this device will be released in China in the near future, but possibly using a different name.

According to a source from the supply chain quoted by Wall Street News, the Vision Pro headset will be released in China in early April and no later than May. But the units that will be available at the start of the launch may be limited.

The report claims the Vision Pro has been registered with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the registration process is almost complete, indicating its launch is getting closer.

Apple previously said the Vision Pro headset would be released in more countries following its US launch on February 2. However, the iPhone manufacturer did not mention which countries and launch schedule.

Even though it is close, the launch of the Vision Pro in China looks like it will experience quite big obstacles. Apple may have to rename Vision Pro as Huawei holds trademark’Vision Pro‘ by China.

The trademark has been held by Huawei since May 16 2019, and the Chinese technology giant holds the exclusive rights to use the name ‘Vision Pro’ in China from November 28 2021 to November 27 2031, as quoted from MacRumors, Saturday (10/2/2024 ).

The trademark falls under International Classification 9 and covers devices such as LCD TVs, virtual reality devices, radio equipment, etc. If Apple wants to use the Vision Pro name for its products in China, they will have to negotiate with Huawei.

Besides China, Apple plans to release the Vision Pro headset in the UK and Canada, according to a report by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman. Both will be the first countries outside the US that Vision Pro will visit.

After that, Apple will reportedly bring Vision Pro to other countries in Europe and Asia. Apple engineers are said to have started working on localizing Vision Pro for France, Germany, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan and Korea.
