Hiroki Tsunoda will be entering his fourth F1 season with the Visa Cash Up RB Formula 1 Team. In 2024, AlphaTauri changed their team name and brought in new specialists. Hiroki Tsunoda hopes the changes will allow him to not only regularly fight for a top-10 finish, but also challenge the Red Bull Racing drivers on a regular basis.
Hiroki Tsunoda has been perceived by fans as “young, with a Latin-like temper, and incredibly fast, but with a high error rate in the early stages.” Franz Tost, who led the Toro Rosso and AlphaTauri teams for many years, always said, “Formula 1 drivers need three years to thoroughly learn their skills.” If Hiroki Tsunoda is to aim for promotion to Red Bull Racing in the medium term, he must deliver results in 2024. Hiroki Tsunoda’s first season after making his F1 debut in 2021 was also his most successful, with 14th place in the World Championship, 32 points, and 4th place in the final race of the 2021 World Championship in Abu Dhabi. But 2022 and 2023 didn’t go so well. He finished 17th at the 2022 World Championships with 12 points and 14th at the 2023 World Championships with 17 points. At the Visa Cash Up RB team presentation held in Las Vegas, Hiroki Tsunoda said, “The team is not completely satisfied with the performance of the past two years. In 2023, we will challenge our opponents in the second half of the season.” “We had a serious problem in the first race.” “This year we will be competitive from the beginning of the season and we expect to fight for better results. The team is hungry for results.” “The team had a competitive car in 2021. “We have employees with a lot of experience. Working with them will help me further improve. I look forward to making progress, gaining new knowledge from them, and becoming a better person.” “This is an exciting new phase for this team. We have a new team leader in Laurent Mequise and a new CEO in Peter Bayer. “Both of them have big plans and I’m happy to be a part of them.” “The team is about to strengthen considerably. Alain Parmain has moved from Alpine, Tim Goss is coming in the summer. Alan has won races and world titles with Renault and he brings a winning mentality, which is cool. “I like the fresh air. Driver In 2024, we want to show what we have learned as a team. We are aiming for a top 10 finish or higher. We hope to compete with Red Bull Racing someday. I am sure we will be successful.” We will be working closely together, which is good news. Red Bull Racing has been a dominant team over the last few years and we will use every means within the regulations to make use of their experience. When asked about specific goals for 2024, Hiroki Tsunoda answered, “We are not satisfied with our results in recent years.Especially, we struggled quite a bit in the first half of the 2023 season. We want to do even better. We are hungry for something to show. We finished 6th overall in the 2021 season and we want to return to this region. “Expectations are high, but the new specialists will take time to get used to. “For us, we don’t know what the future holds. We have to be ambitious but grounded.” “Laurent Méquise has encouraged us to be realistic. For the first few races, the main task is to adapt the new recruits to the team. First, we need to build a strong foundation for the future. I hope the car will be faster, but I have no particular expectations for the first race of the season.”I am more prepared than ever physically and mentally for the GP season. I want to score points, and I want to be a little calmer behind the wheel. Last year, I said, “If I get points, I’ll reward myself. I want to have a Negroni in the evening after the Grand Prix.” So in 2024, ideally I’d like to enjoy a Negroni after the race.”
