The Puerto Rican artist René Pérez, better known as Residente, announced the release of his new album, ‘The letters no longer matter’, through an original short film starring the same singer and the Spanish actress Najwa Nimri.
‘The letters no longer matter’ will be available on music platforms starting next February 22 and marks the return of Residente after 6 years without releasing an album.
The short film, published on the artist’s Instagram account, narrates a therapy in which the patient is Residente and the psychologist, Nimri, who has participated in notable Spanish films such as ‘Abre los ojos’ and ‘Lucía y elsexual’ and in the successful series ‘La casa de papel’.
In therapy, Nimri tells the singer to imagine that “there are no problems anymore,” giving as examples that his ex-wife and his girlfriend are “best friends,” that he already paid for the “penthouse” and that his dog doesn’t urinate in the carpets. “And the music?” asks Residente, who was part of the iconic group Calle 13 with Visitante.

“Now in music, hits can last 8 minutes, just the way you like it. And there are no more silly songs or TikTok dances. Influencers no longer exist,” describes the Spanish actress.
Nimri also highlights that digital platforms “are no longer focused on numbers, they are now focused on creativity and musical composition.”
“You’re finally going to release your album, after six years. What causes you the most stress is the lyrics: Lyrics matter. Everyone cares about lyrics,” he concludes to help Residente.
The short film appears accompanied by a message in which the singer acknowledges that he does not have the same spirit as he did 20 years ago and that he has wanted to do “other things for a long time.”
“I want to make films, write a book, I want not to have to go on tour, I want to be with my son much more, I don’t want to do interviews, I want to draw again, I want to make music for pleasure not out of necessity and I want to say goodbye, but no I want,” the message continues.
In a recent interview with EFE during the Sundance Festival, where the film ‘In the Summers’ triumphed, in which he debuted as an actor, Residente stated that he now sees strengthening his film career as a priority.
Over the last year, the singer has published other short films such as ‘Problema cabrón’, approximately 10 minutes of social denunciation; ‘I want to be a balladeer’, alongside Ricky Martin, and ‘Residente y el Cura’, in which the Spanish actor Javier Cámara appears.
