“Positivus” Summer Festival Announces Lineup featuring “Nothing But Thieves”, Offset, and More!

“Positivus” festival has announced the next artists of this summer, debunking the myth of bowing to hip-hop: the program has been supplemented by the British rock group “Nothing But Thieves”, multiple “Grammy” award winner and outstanding jazz pianist Jacob Collier, the famous “Arcade Fire” musician Will Butler’s project “Will Butler & Sisters Squares,” also homegrown Detlef.

As the biggest card among the newly recruited “Positivus”, however, hip-hop star – Offset is still claimed. He started his musical career in 2011 as a part of the legendary Atlanta group “Migos”, and recently released his second solo album “Set It Off”, which was already streamed 60 million times in the first week of its release. As part of the album, the rapper went on tours in the USA and Europe, where one of the stops will be a festival in Lucsavsala.

Forgive the rappers, but I would like to pay more attention to the rock group “Nothing But Thieves”, which is currently at the highest point of fame, and which hardly anyone remembers, that at the beginning of its career it also performed with “Positivus”. The group has released three albums and stands out with such singles as “Amsterdam”, “Soda” and “Is Everybody Going Crazy?”, as well as the most recent ones “Overcome” and “Welcome To The DCC” (the reviewer would also recommend the songs “City Haunts” and “Do You Lome Me Yet?”) from the album “Dead Club City” released in 2023.

About other entries this week. Jacob Collier is a multiple Grammy Award-winning jazz pianist and genius musician, best known for his DJesse trilogy of albums.

“Experimental but modern – these are some of the words that could be used to describe the British musician Benjamin Clementine,” is how the festival team announces him. He started his career as a musician in 2008, playing in various small bars and events in France, until he released his first project “Cornerstone” in 2013, which was praised even by Paul McCartney! “Two more self-produced albums, a unique voice and performance – the artist has charmed people all over the world and now it’s time for Riga.”

Brooklyn-based indie rock band Sister Squares have teamed up with Arcade Fire’s Will Butler, and last year released their first joint project, Will Butler + Sister Squares, which garnered acclaim thanks to tracks like “Willows” and “Long Grass.” . By the way, this will not be the group’s first visit to Latvia – in November 2023, a concert in “Palladium” was already successfully held.

The fast-rising Manchester indie band Picture Parlour only started their journey in 2021, playing regular gigs at bars in England such as The Windmill, known as one of the most successful venues for young musicians. However, already in the summer of 2023, the group felt the first taste of fame, when the debut single “Norwegian Wood” was released. The group’s sound was compared to such greats as “Arctic Monkeys”, Amy Winehouse, etc., “Picture Parlour” also warmed up “The Kills” on their European tour, and they themselves went around the vast continent with concerts.

We should also mention two domestic artists who will have the opportunity to take to the “Positivus” stage this summer – Detlefs, who announced himself again in the active scene last year, as well as Ozols, one of the pioneers of the Latvian hip-hop movement.
