Ubisoft calls Skull & Bones a “quadruple-A game”

Ubisoft’s pirate game Skull & Bones has had a long and chaotic run. Now we’re getting closer to launch and those who have tried the game so far haven’t necessarily been super impressed. While Ubisoft’s CEO justifies the game’s high price tag by calling it a “quadruple-A game”.

Those who are interested in gambling have probably heard or read the expression “triple-A” or “AAA game” before. This is something called a game that comes from a medium-sized or properly large publisher that usually has extra money to spend on the development and marketing of a game. Ubisoft’s ill-fated game title Skull & Bones should, according to the company’s CEO, step past all other titles and introduce us to “AAAA games”.

The statement shall according to VGC having been made during a finance meeting where Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot was asked why Skull & Bones carries a higher price tag than previous titles from the company. Guillemot is said to have replied with “You will see that Skull & Bones is a full-fledged game. It’s a very big game and we feel that people will really experience how big and complete the game is. It’s really a solid triple… Quadruple-A game that we feel will deliver in the long run.”

Despite Guillemot’s praise, many have taken to the internet to express their displeasure after trying out the closed beta test currently underway ahead of the February 16 launch. The game has been called, among other things, “an AA mobile game for PC” and “Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag’s worse sibling” on forums and in comments fields on social media.

Nothing is impossible as they say and before the game has had an actual chance to convince players of its quality. So far, however, it looks like Ubisoft’s big investment and recurring delays have not resulted in the fantastic game title the company was hoping for.
