A man died at Gare du Nord train station in Paris last night after climbing onto the roof of a stationary train. He was electrocuted by the overhead wires. The train was ready to leave for London the next morning. According to French police, the victim was a migrant.
The accident was captured by surveillance cameras. The images show the man getting off the platform and crossing several tracks on his way to the stationary Eurostar. After climbing onto the train, he receives a shock.
Emergency services responded quickly, but were unable to prevent him from succumbing to his injuries on the spot. The police do not yet know who the man is, but have launched an investigation.
More accidents
It is not the first time that someone has died this way. The exact same thing happened in 2017. Two years earlier, someone survived a similar accident.
It is not yet clear why the man climbed onto the train, but many migrants from France are trying to reach Great Britain. They often cross the Channel in rubber boats or hide in trucks bound for the United Kingdom. The Eurostar train travels through the tunnel under the Channel to London.
