Premalu Movie Review: A Colorful Love Story by Director Girish A.D.

“Isn’t love pinky?”
“Yes”
“Isn’t that a total cliché?”
Yes
“And yet people still
“Don’t love it?”
“Yes”
“What’s the reason for that?”

The answer is simple. The event is colorful. Girish AD is such a colorful entertainer under the banner of Bhavana Studios. Directed by ‘Premalu’. Girish A.D., who entered the hearts of the Malayalees by telling the love and life of Nugen Pillars in a positive light, did not disappoint this time either. As seen in the trailer, Premalu Adimudi is a love film.

Premalu opens his eyes to the world of friendship and love of a group of young B.Tech graduates. Sachin, who is from Aluva, comes to Hyderabad after completing his course from Salem to prepare for GATE. After completing college and school in different parts of the country, Reenu arrives in Hyderabad to explore life. Premalu takes off in full power at the point where these two people who were traveling parallel meet.

Nazlin, Mamita, Sangeet Pratap, Shyam Mohan, Shameer Khan and Akhila Bhargavan make Premalu colorful. It is not easy to say which of these combinations is the best. All the characters have definite personality and clarity. Hence, not a single character seems to be a shadow of another. Sachin and Renu’s romance is the main theme, but the audience will feel fond and attached to Sangeet’s Amal Davis, Akhila’s Karthika, Shyam Mohan’s Adi and Shameer Khan’s Sub. It is possible due to the brilliance of the screenplay along with the precise performance of the actors.

Nazlin played the role of Sachin effortlessly in his usual pattern. That naslin magic loved by Malayalees since Thanneermattan days can also be seen in Premalu. Some of the dialogues, in Nazlin’s style, will make the theater burst into laughter. Nazlin has handled it beautifully without overdoing it. Naslin-Mamita combo will also feel cute. Both of them have equally scored emotional scenes as well as friendship and humor. Shyam Mohan’s character Adi is also excellent. Shyam Mohan as Mr. Perfect who deals only toxically in every relationship is crushing. Shyam oozes toxicity in his body language, dialogue delivery and even in his smile, making the character look good. In a certain way, Shyam’s character is ‘just kidding’ and may even take over the campus as a style.

There are some others in Premalu who win applause by hitting dialogues. The first place is Subin played by Shameer Khan. Shameer, who made a name for himself with the Chural series, has an outstanding performance in Premalu. Sangeeth Prathap is the next star who will win applause with cool counters for Nazlin’s dialogues like Upperi for Ulula. The role of Amal Davis is Sangeet’s career best in Malayalam cinema as a spot editor and actor. Amal Davies is waiting for the guidelines in the movie that can be numbered if you are preparing a handbook for lovers. Meenakshi’s Wanderlust, which does not have many dialogues and scores coolly, often gives good laughs in the theatre. However, Mathew’s character Thomas does not have much to do in the film. The character is completely irrelevant except for the small laughs provided by Mathew’s presence.

Cinematographer Ajmal Sabu has accurately captured the vibe and color of the youth. The frames of the movie have the feeling that you can see the movie and Hyderabad too. Similarly, the songs and background music composed by Vishnu Vijay kept the mood of the movie. Some special BGMs given to each character should be mentioned. Shyam Mohan’s saxophone piece during Adi’s arrival felt the best. Along with the climax, Meenakshi’s character in the background, ‘Sangeetha Veedham’ also raised laughter in the theatre. Akash Joseph Varghese is the editor of the film.

The director Girish A.D. makes the storylines that can be easily guessed by the audience a better experience through interesting dialogues. Even if it repeats the template of Thanneermattan Days, the director manages to keep the audience engaged in the fun of the story telling. The script for the film has been written by Girish AD along with Kiran Josi. Premalu gives a better feel than Supersaranya in character creation and making. In this movie, you can feel the new age love that flies freely without the trappings of fantasy. In short, Premalu is a Kemalu movie.
