A small greeting from beautiful and windy Reykjavik where we met our Nordic-Baltic friends for this year’s exchange of experience and planning of future cooperation.

Three days of good and fruitful talks on the theme of peace through creation. We have talked about migration and integration and worked out a joint statement where we call on our respective governments to uphold the right of refugees to seek asylum.
Church unity, ecumenism and interreligious dialogue were also on the agenda, as well as various lectures on what the changing climate means for Iceland and what led up to the very first Council of Nicea in 325.
There was also an excursion to a thermal plant that uses the volcanic activity and the country’s natural resources to provide the Icelanders with electricity and hot water and to bind CO2 in the ground by reusing the water.
Nice visits to the Catholic cathedral Landakotskirkja as well as to the Lutheran cathedral Hallgrimskirkja, where we celebrated masses.
Next year, our Nordic-Baltic friends will come to Stockholm to also celebrate the Ecumenical Year 2025 together.
