According to doctors, scarlet fever is a bacterial infection that manifests itself as fever, acute tonsillitis and a deep red skin rash. The disease is contagious and easily transmitted, especially through the air.

Scarlet fever was once a common and dangerous disease, but antibiotic treatment has made it a treatable and less common condition. Although anyone can be diagnosed with scarlet fever, children under the age of 15, especially those between the ages of 5 and 10, are most commonly affected. The specialists also appreciate that the disease is rarely found in children under 2 years old, but is common in communities, such as kindergartens or schools.

There is no vaccine to prevent scarlet fever, and the best strategy to prevent the disease is to follow general precautions against infection. The first and most important rule, doctors say, is to wash your hands with soap and water.
