Vaccination
Health System applied 16,500 booster doses against COVID-19 to the at-risk population
The Minister of Public Health, Karina Rando, recalled that the vaccination campaign continues so that people who are part of the at-risk population receive a booster dose. On the portfolio’s website it is possible to access the list of inoculation centers and information on days and hours of operation. Likewise, she ruled out the existence of a COVID-19 outbreak in Uruguay.
Following the recommendation made by the National Vaccine Advisory Commission, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) enabled the incorporation of a booster dose against this virus for those over 70 years of age; those over 50 in cases of comorbidities – that is, those who suffer from chronic diseases; under 50 years of age with medical indication due to a disease that causes immunosuppression and pregnant women, Rando explained to Presidential Communication, this Wednesday the 7th.
The minister was satisfied with the vaccination rate implemented in the campaign, which, to date, has reached around 16,500 booster doses applied. Likewise, she recalled that the list of vaccination centers and the hours in which they operate is available on the MSP website.
Like other countries, Uruguay once again acquired the vaccine produced by the Pfizer laboratory, which includes some modifications to cover the genetically sequenced viruses currently circulating. “It is a vaccine with the same technology as the previous one,” he explained.
Rando ruled out that there is a resurgence of COVID-19 in Uruguay, and pointed out that, although there is a higher circulation than in previous epidemiological weeks, the viral circulation is lower than that registered a year ago.
