A number of members of the Islamic Organization Friendship Institute (THEN) together with ulama issued a petition entitled “Ulama for Democracy and Social Justice” ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
General Chairperson of LPOI Said Aqil Siraj said his party urged state officials to stop taking sides with one of the candidate pairs in the 2024 presidential election.
Said Aqil said that the non-neutrality of state administrators had the potential to trigger public distrust and encourage social disobedience. He is worried that this potential could lead to chaos in society.
“Realizing the holding of the 2024 Election directly, publicly, free of secrets, honestly, fairly, peacefully and rejecting various interventions by state administrators in the 2024 Presidential Election. Calling for an end to partiality by state administrators towards one of the candidate pairs, so that democracy can be upheld and the election with dignity,” read one of the points of the petition read by Said Aqil, quoted on Thursday (8/2).
Said Aqil also called for stopping various attempts to abuse power for personal and group interests. They also asked that the constitution be upheld.
According to him, Islam strongly condemns authoritarian and arbitrary attitudes. For him, giving warnings and criticism is an attitude that is not prohibited in Islam.
“As long as we continue to use polite and constitutional procedures, the people must not be silenced and the government must not resist criticism, because the government is the servant of the people of Al Imam Khodimul Ummah,” he said.
The following are the nine points of the petition issued by LPOI:
1. Uphold democracy and uphold the constitution in a constitutional manner, and if there is an actual violation, immediately take action as fair as possible in line with the people’s conscience.
2. Realizing economic equality and realizing social justice for all Indonesian people without exception.
3. Eradicating the legal mafia, land mafia and oligarchic practices that are detrimental to the nation, as well as ending various arbitrariness that is detrimental to the interests of the people.
4. Realize that the 2024 General Election will be held directly, publicly, free of secrets, honestly, fairly, peacefully and rejecting various interventions by state administrators in the 2024 Presidential Election, as well as calling for an end to partiality by state administrators towards one of the candidate pairs, so that democracy can be upheld. and dignified elections.
5. Stop various attempts to abuse power and/or use of state resources, for personal and group interests under any pretext.
6. Support various efforts to take sides in the future and fate of the people, by providing affirmation, protection and facilitation of wider, guaranteed and sustainable employment opportunities. Not only does it perpetuate the practice of providing assistance which only creates new dependency effects and is easily claimed as personal assistance or certain groups.
7. The state must be present to uphold democracy and social justice. State administrators must not be anti-criticism and must be more firm in providing a sense of justice, legal certainty, and guaranteeing that the elections will run safely, peacefully and without any fraud. The country cannot lose to anyone.
8. Maintain integrity, unity and unity as well as create a peaceful situation and maintain constitutional state governance.
9. Invite all people, all citizens of the nation to use their right to vote intelligently and reject money politics. At the same time calling on all parties to work together to worship Allah SWT so that the Indonesian nation and state will always be safe, peaceful, prosperous and prosperous.
