Mayors of Réolais in South-Gironde demand rural vitalization zone (ZRR) classification for their territory

The tricolor scarf over the life jacket. This Wednesday, February 7, mayors and elected officials of the community of communes of Réolais in South-Gironde asked the sub-prefect of Langon that their territory be classified as rural vitalization zone (ZRR). This system, aimed at promoting the economic development of rural communities, allows companies setting up business to be exempt for the first five years.

Elected officials deplore the fact that this system exists within the four other communities of municipalities surrounding them. So, to mark the occasion, they decided to file a motion with the sub-prefect, but on board boats. Leaving the port of Caudrot, they went down the Garonne to reach Langon.

“We have to make ourselves heard so that we don’t sink”

“For us, it’s incomprehensible what’s happening,” laments Stéphane Denoyelle. He is the mayor of Saint-Pierre d’Aurillac, a town of 1,300 inhabitants. The councilor is installing a health center in his village. However, Saint-Pierre d’Aurillac affects the community of communes of South-Gironde, which is classified as a ZRR. SO : “We are very worried about attracting health professionals. because 5 kilometers apart, they have a tax exemption. We are in totally unfair competition“.

A territory classified as a rural revitalization zone therefore attracts more businesses and contributes to the economic dynamism of small communities. For Christian Malandit, mayor of Saint-Michel-de-Lapujade, there is an injustice in not benefiting from this system : “We have companies that intend to set up, but if we don’t offer them cost-saving solutions, we won’t have anyone here.“.

A business will soon open in Saint-Vivien-de-Monségur. Mayor Philippe Moute regrets not being part of the ZRR system, and is worried about the future: “It would be good for commerce to benefit from these advantages. I have an agricultural area, it’s true that they have difficulty finding employees for the season. If we don’t have that, we won’t have anything left“.
