February 7, 2024, 4:35 p.m. | City of Gelsenkirchen

GE. In February, the Municipal Cinema invites you on an exciting journey through the world of art in its main series “Film and Art”: from the 17th century to the present, with films about important works – primarily paintings – and their creators. On Sunday, February 11th and on Shrove Monday, February 12th, Koki will be showing the comedy “A Festival for Life” by Richard Huber as part of the Neuer Deutscher Film film series. On Tuesday, February 13th, the Dutch documentary “Vermeer – Journey into Light” by Suzanne Raes about the preparations for the large Vermeer exhibition in the Rijksmuseum will follow in the Film and Art film series. Performances run Sunday at 12:45 p.m., Monday and Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

A celebration for life

The professional wedding planner Dieter (Christoph Maria Herbst) is now completely fed up with his customers. He wants to retire from the job, but not without first carrying out one last, crowning task: organizing the dream wedding of Leonie (Mira Benser) and Lasse (Ulrich Brandhoff). Whether it’s the live music, the food, the service or the photos, this time only the best should be good enough. But when the big day comes, everything gets out of hand. A power outage, tax investigators suddenly appearing and delicacies that are no longer fresh are the least of the problems that Dieter is faced with. – FSK without information.

Vermeer – Journey into the Light

The Dutchman Jan Vermeer van Delft, also known as Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675), is considered one of the most important Baroque painters – with a manageable oeuvre of 37 works, including the deeply impressive, world-famous pictures “View of Delft” and “The Girl with the Pearl earring”. There is no portrait of Vermeer; There is only sparse information about his life. He is the painter of light who himself remains in darkness. Director Suzanne Raes traces the Vermeer phenomenon in a highly interesting documentary that illuminates the creation of the spectacular Vermeer exhibition in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam in 2023 and draws its special appeal from the intensive observation and artistic-scientific analysis of the Vermeer pictures as well as from the conversations with the various experts. – FSK from 0 years.

The performances take place in the Schauburg, Horster Straße 6. Admission costs 6 euros for a performance or 54 euros for the 10-person ticket. Schoolchildren, students and GE pass holders receive discounts.
