Brentford full-back Mathias “Zanka” Jørgensen was linked with a return to FC Copenhagen in January, but in the end it was not a transfer.
Now Brentford coach Thomas Frank talks about the situation around “Zanka”.
– We were not interested in releasing “Zanka”, as we had to think about ourselves and how the squad looks because we have had many injuries during the season, says the Danish coach according to the Danish site bold.dk.
– I don’t know exactly what has been offered, but I know that Phil Giles (Brentford sporting director) came and asked me, but we agreed that it was best to keep Zanka.
Frank also believes that the player is happy to remain in England.
– He is also happy to be here, and I had no doubt about that. I don’t know what concrete offers and non-concrete offers have been.
Jørgensen is basically under contract with Brentford until the summer of 2025. He joined from Fenerbahce in 2021, and this season is listed for eight appearances.
The 33-year-old last played for FCK in the 2020-2021 season, when he was on loan from Fenerbahce. Furthermore, he also belonged to the club between 2007 and 2012, as well as between 2014 and 2017. He has made a total of 300 matches with the capital club.
