Boris Becker Opens Up About Coaching Decisions with Holger Rune and Novak Djokovic

“Due to professional and private obligations, I cannot give Holger what he needs,” Becker wrote on the X platform. Rune recently failed in the second round of the Australian Open – without Becker’s direct support. The former Wimbledon winner instead worked from Germany for the broadcasting TV station Eurosport as an expert and co-commentator. Becker later said that he communicated with Rune every day during the tournament.

Rune had recently ended his collaboration with former Roger Federer coach Severin Lüthi. “I’ve tried out many different coaching constellations over the last twelve months. After working with the same coach for 15 years, it’s not easy to find the perfect partner,” explained the Dane.

Becker returned to coaching in October after almost seven years. As coach of Grand Slam record champion Novak Djokovic, he celebrated numerous successes between 2013 and 2016 and led the Serb back to the top of the ATP rankings.
