In the latest episode of ‘Help, My Husband Is Handyman!’ Angelique calls in the help of John Williams (54) and his team. Her brother has been renovating their 87-year-old mother’s house for years, but the job has turned into one big tragedy. Mother Ann therefore temporarily lives at home with her son, which causes a lot of frustration.
“My father would turn in his grave”
Angelique lives in Curaçao and is very concerned about mother Ann, who lives in Utrecht. Years ago, Angelique’s brother Jean-Paul promised Ann’s house would be ‘home-proof‘ while Ann is recovering from delirium. But when Ann has finished her rehabilitation, she cannot go to her own house. On the contrary: Jean-Paul made the house unliveable by demolishing everything. When John Williams asks Ann how she feels about this, he is shocked by her response. “They better give me an injection,” said Ann.
“You didn’t even ask permission from your mother,” Angelique says angrily to her brother. The situation is so dire that Ann is forced to live with her son. She sits there on the couch all day because she cannot go down the stairs independently and has to share her bedroom with her son. Angelique is done with it, but Jean-Paul clearly thinks differently. “There are worse situations for some people,” he sighs.
When John confronts Jean-Paul, he immediately becomes defensive. He calls his sister’s concerns ‘nonsense’ and does not understand the seriousness of the situation at all. And yet, due to the demolition of the toilet and sewerage, there are even condoms and feces from the upstairs neighbors washed up on the site of Ann’s former toilet.
It frustrates Angelique enormously that her brother does not want to fulfill their mother’s greatest wish, to grow old in her own house. “My father would be turning in his grave,” said Angelique. Fortunately, John manages to convince Jean-Paul to accept the help of the handyman team. The team is speechless when they see the house.
The renovation is anything but smooth. Although Angelique reports every morning, Jean-Paul is often late and at some point he doesn’t even show up anymore. When John calls him, Jean-Paul indicates that he is ill. It is soon decided that the job will continue without him and that he is no longer allowed to interfere. The handyman team works hard and manages to achieve a wonderful result for Ann.
When Jean-Paul sees the end result, he is happy for his mother, but he says that he himself ‘did it very differently’. “I have very different tastes,” he says. Still, he compliments the job team. And mother Ann pushes him back to the facts: “You could never have gotten this like this.”
John arrives a few weeks after the shooting of Help my husband is a handyman! one more time to see if Ann is now living in her renovated home. To his shock and ‘slight irritation’, this turns out not to be the case. Due to several leaks, Ann is still not living in her home. Fortunately, handyman Ruud knows what to do and fixes the leaks, so that Ann can finally move into the house.
