Being paid to taste new products is the mission of expert “tasters”. Trained beforehand, they are paid 40 euros per hour. A TF1 team takes you on a behind-the-scenes tour of some of them. ‘one of these tests.
On today’s menu: a new, still confidential recipe and sometimes indigestible instructions, notably a sequential monadic chocolate profile. If this does not seem, at first glance, very eloquent, the brigade of tasting experts present that day know perfectly well what to do.
Isolated for an hour, they will establish the complete product sheet. Smell, flavor, texture… while nothing is left to chance, they have undergone training for at least three months to be as precise as possible. “I do it because above all I am a foodie, I like to discover and then I like the expertise that it will give me on the different flavors and textures”testifies in the report at the top of this article, Isabelle, a young retiree who has just been distributed three small squares of chocolate on a numbered plate. “Without forgetting the financial side because it is a small additional salary which is not negligible”, she adds.

All food tasting experts earn 40 euros per hour, or around 300 euros per month.

If the manufacturer concerned attaches great importance to these tests, it is because colossal sums are at stake. As an illustration, the chocolate tested during the filming of this report will be available on the shelves if and only if it is validated by the jurors during this stage.
Please note that all food products available on supermarket shelves are evaluated. Whatever the product family concerned, everything is scrutinized, including the number of holes in the cheese.
