Verdi calls on Lufthansa ground staff to go on a warning strike. The result: Major disruptions in air traffic are also expected in Frankfurt.
Frankfurt/Berlin – The Verdi union has called on Lufthansa ground staff to go on a one-day warning strike at various airports next Wednesday. This was announced by a Verdi spokesman early on Monday morning. The Lufthansa locations in Frankfurt/Main, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin and Düsseldorf are affected. “Since all ground employees from maintenance to passenger and aircraft handling are called on a warning strike, there will likely be major flight cancellations and delays,” said Verdi in a statement on Monday morning.
Lufthansa’s previous offer rejected
The warning strike is a reaction to the collective bargaining negotiations currently taking place for the approximately 25,000 ground employees at Deutsche Lufthansa, Lufthansa Technik and Lufthansa Cargo. Verdi intends to increase the pressure on employers with the warning strike. An offer from the employers, which was presented in the second round of negotiations on February 23, was rejected. The points of criticism concern, among other things, wage increases that are perceived to be too low and the proposed term of 36 months. The next round of negotiations will take place on February 12, 2024 in Frankfurt am Main.

Recently, the pilots of the Lufthansa subsidiary Discover Airlines also went on strike.
