Trump Outperforms Biden on Economy and Border Control, Poll Shows
Former President Donald Trump continues to outshine President Joe Biden when it comes to key issues such as the economy and border control, according to the results of a recent national NBC News poll. Despite Biden’s recent claims of success in economic policies and job growth, voters still see Trump as the better candidate to handle the economy. In fact, Trump leads Biden by 23 points in this area.
Biden’s argument that his administration’s economic policies are working seems to have fallen on deaf ears. While he highlighted the decrease in inflation and the creation of 800,000 manufacturing jobs, registered voters still believe that Trump would be more effective in steering the economy. A staggering 55% of voters chose Trump, compared to only 33% who favored Biden.
The disparity between the two candidates is not limited to the economy. Trump also holds significant leads over Biden in other important areas. When it comes to securing the border, Trump leads by a whopping 35 points. Additionally, he has a 23-point advantage over Biden in terms of mental and physical health, and a 21-point lead in dealing with crime and violence. Trump also outperforms Biden in being competitive and effective (+16) and improving America’s standing in the world (+11).
These numbers should be concerning for Biden, especially considering the significant shift from 2020 when he led Trump by nine points in terms of competitiveness and effectiveness. Democrat pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates, who conducted the poll alongside Republican pollster Bill McInturff, expressed his concern over Biden’s declining standing compared to four years ago. “On every measure compared to 2020, Biden has declined. Most damning, the belief that Biden is more likely to be up to the job — the chief tenet of the Biden candidacy — has evaporated,” said Horwitt.
The erosion of Biden’s standing against Trump may explain his declining approval ratings, which hit a new low in the poll at just 37%. It is clear that voters are not fully convinced of Biden’s ability to handle key issues, and this skepticism is reflected in their support for Trump.
Overall, the poll shows that Trump maintains a five-percentage-point lead over Biden in a hypothetical 2024 general election rematch, with Trump at 47% and Biden at 42%. These results indicate that Trump’s influence and popularity remain strong among registered voters.
It is worth noting that the poll was conducted from January 26 to 30, with 1,000 registered voters surveyed. The margin of error for the poll is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
In conclusion, President Biden is struggling to compete with former President Trump on crucial issues such as the economy and border control. Despite recent job growth numbers and claims of success in economic policies, voters still see Trump as the better candidate in these areas. The poll highlights a significant decline in Biden’s standing compared to four years ago and raises concerns about his ability to be effective and competitive. With Trump leading by five percentage points in a hypothetical rematch, it is evident that his influence and popularity endure among registered voters.
