The driveways at Scheemda (Groningen) on the A7 have already been closed to prevent protesting farmers from heading towards the German border. A number of Dutch and German farmers want to block that border, reports the ANWB.
About fifty people had previously gathered at a McDonald’s branch in Winschoten for a farmers’ campaign, says a spokesperson for the fast food chain.
The farmers left the parking lot just after 3:30 p.m., probably to head towards the German border. Seven tractors are said to be involved in this action.
The police check vehicles at the German border and fines are issued. A police spokesperson cannot say with certainty how many tickets will be handed out and what type of fines they are.
Farmers Defense Force (FDF) has already announced that they did not organize this action. There are members of FDF present.
Blockade at the Belgian border lasted until Saturday evening
On Thursday, the Belgian border was blocked by Belgian farmers on the A67 near Eersel. The Dutch farmers supported them and blocked the border themselves on Friday. Demonstrations were also held in other places on Friday evening. This also applies to the A7 in North Holland and Friesland, and the A12. On Saturday evening, the Belgian border at the A67 was only free again after repair work had been carried out on the road surface.
FDF will hold a meeting on Tuesday and then it will be decided whether further demonstrations will take place. There is a chance that there will be a national day of action.
