the essential British MP George Freeman resigned from his post as minister on November 13. He believes that his salary was no longer enough to repay the mortgage on his house.
A salary more than comfortable for some, but insufficient for George Freeman. The former British Minister for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, revealed to Guardianhaving resigned from his government position because his salary no longer suited him.
“Why did I resign? Because my mortgage is going up this month from 800 to 2,000 pounds sterling, which I simply couldn’t afford to pay on a ministerial salary.” , he told the English media.
His salary since entering the British parliament in 2010 is around 11,500 euros per month. He was also able to receive compensation of 8,500 euros when he left other ministerial positions in the past.
He assured when he resigned last November that he must now “focus on [sa] health, [son] family well-being and [sa] life beyond the front office”. The 56-year-old MP had indicated on his personal blog that he felt “exhausted” and “depressed” after having held five ministerial posts.
After 13yrs working to champion Science, Research, Technology & Innovation as Minister of the Crown in 5 roles under 4 Prime Ministers, I decided in the summer it was time to move on at the next reshuffle.

Now, George Freeman will have the opportunity to take on other, more lucrative jobs alongside his duties as an MP, which comes with a remuneration of around 100,000 euros per year, if approved by the public body, the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments.
The British Prime Minister, RIshi Sunak, assured that the remuneration of ministers will not change: “It is important that we ensure that the remuneration of ministers reflects the overall financial situation of the country.”
1.5 million UK households have seen annual housing costs rise by around £1,800 on average since the start of the year.
