National Education Executive Resigns Over Controversial Reform: Impact on Paris Rector’s Departure

A few weeks after her appointment as head of National Education, while she is entangled in controversies over the schooling of her children and a revolt from teachers is being heard throughout France, Amélie Oudéa-Castera has just lost an ally in the person of Christophe Kerrero, the rector of Paris, one of the highest executives of National Education in France.

“Today I am leaving my role as rector of the Paris academy, when our school is in the grip of doubt and the situation nevertheless requires mobilization from each of its actors,” writes Christophe Kerrero in his letter to the staff of the ‘academy. According to his entourage, the rector felt “disowned” by the Minister of National Education regarding the school map.

“For the minister to decide on the subject of the national map of prep classes, that is part of her prerogatives, but it could have been done differently,” reacted to AFP Sophie Vénétitay, general secretary of Snes-FSU for middle and high schools.
