National Air Traffic Control the Netherlands (LVNL) calls on the new cabinet to continue to have air traffic controllers at Lelystad Airport, even if the airport does not open for commercial flights. According to LVNL, they have made an important contribution to improving safety at the airport. They want to continue to guarantee that safety in the future.
Air traffic control came to the airport in 2019. This leadership was necessary to ensure that the airport could be opened to commercial aviation. This week, the House of Representatives adopted a motion in which they expressed the wish that the airport would not open for those flights.

LVNL therefore wants to remain at the airport for safety reasons, including because of the departure and approach routes for air traffic to and from Schiphol that are close to the airport. In order to continue to handle all these traffic flows safely, LVNL believes that air traffic control will remain essential in the future.
24 air traffic controllers and assistants currently work at the airport. In total, there were more than 75,000 aircraft movements at the airport last year.
