Femke Bol Breaks World Record in 400 Meters at Indoor Competition in Metz

Feb 3, 2024 at 5:00 PM Update: 15 minutes ago

Femke Bol ran a lightning fast time in the 400 meters on Saturday in her opening race of the season. The Amersfoort native was therefore the strongest at the indoor competition in Metz.

The 23-year-old Bol achieved a time of 49.69 seconds. This left her 43 hundredths above her own world record, which she set almost a year ago in Apeldoorn.

For Bol it was the second indoor time ever in her career. In the open air, her personal record is 49.44, which also makes her the Dutch record.

Bol was much faster than the competition in Metz. The European champion kept the Romanian Andrea Miklos (51.41) well behind him in the A-final. Lieke Klaver, who played in the B final, came closest to her compatriot’s time with 51.33.

Later on Saturday, Bol will compete in the 200 meters in Metz. Klaver also appears at the start at that distance.

Bol falls well below the limit for the World Indoor Championships

With her time, Bol also fell far below the limit for the World Indoor Championships, which will take place in Glasgow from 1 to 3 March. Two years ago, the Dutch took silver in the 400 meters at the World Indoor Championships.

Bol was crowned world champion in the 400 meter hurdles last year and led the Dutch relay team to victory in the 4×400 meters with a phenomenal final sprint. She also won gold in the 400 meters and the 4×400 meters at the European Indoor Championships.

For Bol, this year everything revolves around the Olympic Games in Paris, which start on Friday, July 26. Three years ago she took bronze in the 400 meter hurdles in Tokyo.

In the 60 meter hurdles, Nadine Visser was only three hundredths above her own Dutch record with a time of 7.80 seconds in the B final. De Hoornse fell in the series.
