Over 10,000 People Vaccinated with New Covid_19 Formulation in Coquimbo Region

In the region, more than 10 thousand people have already been vaccinated with the new formulation against Covid_19.

The best way to prepare for winter, so as not to catch Covid-19, is to get vaccinated. For this reason, the Ministry of Health has already begun preparing the 2024 winter campaign, anticipating the period where the circulation of respiratory viruses will increase, and one of these strategies is to reinforce vaccination.

Currently, the Ministry of Health is administering the updated monovalent vaccine (XBB1.5 season 2024), which was recommended by the WHO expert advisory group, as it causes cross-protection against the SARS-CoV-2 variants that are currently circulating. , including descendant lineages, such as JN.1.

In the Coquimbo region, more than 10 thousand doses have already been administered with the new formulation against Covid_19. In addition, vaccination operations are being strengthened, not only in health centers, but also on the ground in places with the greatest influx of tourists.

In this regard, Tomás Balaguer, Seremi(s) of Health of the region, after participating in a vaccination operation on the large beach of Tongoy, pointed out that “The call is to be vaccinated against Covid, to prepare for the winter where there is more circulation of respiratory viruses, to preventively confront respiratory diseases.”

The message from the Health Authority focuses on those over 60 years of age, pregnant women, immunocompromised people and people who have chronic diseases to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

For her part, the Head of the Coquimbo Health Department, Fabiola Araya, pointed out that “Today we are in Tongoy and we will be in different summer resorts, with the aim of bringing vaccination closer to people and we can be prepared for this winter, with the “new formula against Covid_19.”

Finally, from the Coquimbo Health Service, the Immunization Program representative, Beatriz Zúñiga, explained “The idea is that we do not forget that communicable diseases are present throughout the day, although during the winter we have greater viral circulation, but we can access the vaccine within the year.”
